No need to mince words, the world is getting smaller. Two brief notes about this in recent weeks, all because of a) basic networking, b) the Internet and its ability to connect and c) coincidences that come from a & b.

Recently, in search of the perfect candidate with certain regional and applied consulting expertise, I turned to my rolodex and called up the name of someone I've known for 20+ years. Somehow, though, I'd lost touch with him so I went to my favorite search engine and found a posting with email and other incidental information. Contact was made, and as it turned out, it became one of those constant coincidences: we both ended up in Rio de Janeiro on the same day a few weeks later, allowing us to spend two hours together catching up and interviewing each other for a common purpose. A pleasant and productive coincidence, to say the least.

The second happenstance came through another networking experience in a local venue (south Florida), wherein I was invited to become a member of an Internationally-oriented networking group. As luck would have it, my "screener" turned out to be the CIO of a major automotive industry powerhouse, one that my current company sells to, and one which is happily engaged with the human capital management solutions of SuccessFactors. So, not only did I get the "green light" to become a member of that group (www.iergonline.org) but I also made the acquaintance and networked connection of a very high-level executive who believes in and participates actively in international networking. Right up my alley!

So, wherever your ride takes you on the Career Path Express™, be alert, stay awake, engage the right gears and you'll likely find that coincidences will collide with you constantly as you travel along, enhancing the trip, expanding your network and facilitating a pleasant and productive ride.
